DESCRIPTION:Intercultural Creative Circles are weekly Wednesday drop-in sessions for participants wanting supported assistance with guest artists or for those who just enjoy the camaraderie of working on their own project in the company of others. There is no fee or registration required\, however\, space may be limited depending on the number of participants. \n2025 November 5\, 12\, & 19\, 11:00am – 3:00pm\nGuest Artist Cindy Hamilton \nCindy Hamilton is a talented Ojibwe artist hailing from Treaty 3 with a rich cultural heritage that encompasses both European and First Nations ancestry\, including Metis roots. \nAs an adult\, in the late 1990’s\, Cynthia was working on her genealogy when she was inspired by a picture of her Great-Grandmother adorned in beautiful moccasins\, Cynthia instantly knew she had to learn the art herself. She taught herself through extensive research and experimentation\, eventually crafting her own unique patterns. What started as a hobby transformed into a meaningful artistic expression\, keeping her family’s cultural traditions alive. \nHighlights of her career/journey – Cindy has received several Individual Art grants and an Artist Fellowship thru Region 2 Arts. She was chosen by Manitoba Mukluks to be a contributing artist for thier Indigenous Market and has been there for the last 2 years. She has been included in 9 Group Art Exhibitions across the State of Minnesota in the last 3 years. She won “Best in Show” at the juried Art Contest at the 2nd Annual Anishinaabe Art Festival in Bemidji in July 2024. \nCindy is a 2025 recipient of the MSAB Creative Individual Grant. She is the current President of the Lake of the Woods Art Guild in Baudette.\nCynthia’s diverse skills span from crafting traditional moccasins\, mukluks and mitts\, to portrait painting in pastels\, oils\, and acrylics. Her dedication to honoring her First Nations and Metis heritage is evident in her work. \nAs Cynthia continues to create breathtaking artwork and impart her knowledge through community workshops and exhibitions\, her profound connection to her roots remains an essential foundation in all her artistic endeavors. \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota\, through grant from the Region 2 Arts Council\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

SUMMARY:Reception & Awards Presentations "It's Only Clay"
DESCRIPTION:It’s Only Clay homepage → \nWatermark Art Center opens the annual “It’s Only Clay Exhibit” on November 7 from 5 to 7pm. Awards and presentations begin at 5:30pm with Special Guest Artist and Juror Nick DeVries. The exhibit will be on display through December 23\, 2025. \n“It’s Only Clay” (IOC) is a national juried ceramics competition focusing on\, and dedicated to\, functional clay vessels. Each submission for IOC is judged in four areas: function\, form/aesthetic\, craftsmanship\, and surface design. Selected works from the 2025 submissions as well as work by DeVries will be on display as part of the IOC exhibit. \nOn November 8 from 9am to 12 noon\, DeVries will lead a hands-on workshop where participants will learn techniques and processes to build interesting textures and surfaces. Leather-hard cylinders will be provided for the workshop as well as tools and additional materials. The class fee is $30 or $15 for students ages 16 and up (bring student ID day of class). All participants must register in advance and pay online. Space is limited. DESCRIPTION:A poetry slam is a competitive art event in which poets perform spoken word poetry before a live audience and a panel of judges. Poets are not required to memorize their poems and are welcome to use notes.
