SUMMARY:Opening Reception and Artist Talk: Ann Gorman
DESCRIPTION:“Through My Lens” – photography and poetry by local artist Ann Gorman\, is a celebration of the success of biodiverse gardening\, inspired by the monarchs she discovered in her own backyard. The exhibit opens August 8 with a reception from 5 to 7pm. Gorman will speak at 6pm. \nShe tells the compelling story of the monarch butterfly’s lifecycle—from larva to adult and through its remarkable migration journey. Highlighted are the monarch’s struggles\, the multiple generations that thrive in Minnesota each year\, and the awe-inspiring “super generation” that migrates to Mexico in the fall and returns north in the spring. \nAccompanying each photograph is a poem\, giving voice to the monarch butterfly and inviting viewers to connect emotionally with its plight. The poems represent the subjects’ stories beyond the still image. \nThis event is free and open to the public. For more information regarding memberships\, exhibits\, classes\, or events at Watermark visit WatermarkArtCenter.org. Watermark is accessible and there is no fee to view exhibits or to visit the retail gallery during regular hours: Monday – Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Watermark is located at 505 Bemidji Ave N\, in Bemidji or call 218-444-7570. \nThis activity is made possible\, in part\, by a Region 2 Arts Council Artist Support Grant with funding from the McKnight Foundation.

SUMMARY:Reception & Artist Talk: My Wanderlust with Cam Zebrun
DESCRIPTION:Link to Exhibit →Zebrun’s practice focuses on sculpture and collage. His sculptures are made from wood and painted with oils and watercolors. He utilizes the color and textures offered by their wooden surfaces. He frequently incorporates colored plexiglass and collage elements into his work. The convex shapes he uses suggest abstract representations of kayaks\, surfboards\, and arched forms found in nature\, like the edge of a waterfall\, the profile of a mountain ridge\, or the crest of a wave. \nHe explains\, “Recently\, my engagement with the natural world has become more inclusive in its focus\, drawing on many sources\, science\, history\, and deep time. Not only am I using my personal experiences and observations of our environment as inspiration\, but there is also an examination of geological time and its effects on the land as well as our need as humans to catalog\, interrupt\, and conquer our environment and the impact of climate change brought on by human activities. My practice is focused on sculpture which examines our environment through layers of context.” \nThere is no admission fee for this event. Watermark is accessible and there is no fee to view exhibits or to visit the retail gallery during regular hours: Monday – Saturday from 10am to 5pm. 505 Bemidji Avenue N. in Bemidji\, MN. 218-444-7570. For more information regarding events\, exhibits and classes visit WatermarkArtCenter.org. \nThis activity is made possible from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
