DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED Join Watermark exhibiting artist Aaron Squadroni and learn the art of drawing with metal\, or “metalpoint”. Participants will work with various metals to create subtle and enigmatic drawings. Full workshop information\, register and pay → \nA metalpont drawing is created by pulling a metal rod or wire\, utilized as a drawingtool\, across a surface that is often prepared with gesso or primer. \nIncluded will be a brief look at the history of metalpoint drawing. \nOnce used by scribes and craftsmen in ancient times and artists during the Renaissance\, metalpoint is gaining renewed appreciation in the contemporary art world.

SUMMARY:MAR 29 Hearth Basket Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Adults – Ages 14+\nClass Fee: $40.00 includes materials\nClass time: 10am – 6pm \nJoin Master Weaver Shannon Lucas-Westrum for a hands-on basket weaving workshop. Participants will craft a versatile basket perfect for the hearth or harvest. \nUnder the expert guidance of Shannon and her apprentice\, build a sturdy grid base\, then weave the sides around an 8” square hoop. You will also learn to create cordage from local grasses or leaves and work with birch bark for decorative accents. \nThe finished basket will measure 8” high\, 9” wide and 14” long – a beautiful and functional piece for your home. \nThanks to an Arts Education Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, participant cost for this workshop has been reduced by more than half\, and all materials are free of cost. \nAdditional Info to Participants:\nHand dexterity is required for this workshop. \nInstructor will provide all necessary tools (shears\, weights\, towels\, wash tubs\, etc.). \nThere will be a 30 minute break for lunch on your own. \nIf you are unable to register because the class is full\, contact Jill Neumann to get on a waiting list: jneumann@watermarkartcenter.org \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund
