SUMMARY:Impressionistic Oil Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Darcy Brambrink\nSaturday\, April 12\, 2025 from 10am – 3pm\nAdults ages 16+ \nClass Fee: $100.00 includes materials \nRegister and pay online → \nIf you are unable to register because the class is full\, contact Jill Neumann to get on a waiting list: jneumann@watermarkartcenter.org \nParticipants will work with water based oils (no solvents) as instructor Darcy Brambrink leads them into using an impressionistic style of color and brushwork. Tonal values and creating a “tonan” will be discussed before starting a landscape painting. The group will also learn how to color tone the background before painting actually begins. Participants will follow along in painting a landscape painting on a 8 x 10 birch board panel in a size that can be easily framed later if so desired. \nParticipants are required to bring along an old shirt or smock to cover clothing\, hair dryer to speed drying of background and a sack lunch for a break. \nPlease note even though we are using water-based oil paints\, paint will still be wet when class is done. Transportation of your piece may require you to have flattened cardboard\, shallow box or an old towel to protect your painting in your vehicle. \nDarcy Brambrink is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

SUMMARY:April 17 Poetry SUPER SLAM!
DESCRIPTION:It’s the last slam of the season! \nFozzie’s Smokin Bar BQ in Bemidji is hosting Watermark’s April Poetry SUPER SLAM Live event at 7pm on Thursday\, April 17\, doors and music at 6pm. There is no charge to participate and no charge to watch. Poets can pre-register by calling Watermark Art Center at 218-444-7570 or sign-up at the door. This event is popular\, so it’s advised to arrive early. \nWhat’s a Poetry SLAM? A poetry slam is a competitive art event in which poets perform spoken word poetry before a live audience and a panel of judges. While formats can vary\, slams are often loud and lively\, with audience participation\, cheering and dramatic delivery. \nPoets should prepare three original SLAM poems\, each under three minutes reading time; notes are allowed. Judges\, selected from the audience\, score each reading. The poets with highest scores move forward through consecutive rounds. The top three in the final round win cash prizes. \nPoetry Slams are sponsored in part by Bemidji Area Arts Endowment and Sundown Records in Bemidji\, MN.
