MIIKANAN GALLERY at Watermark Art Center
Juried Art Exhibition
2017 Aazhoomon – “Convergence” Indigenous Arts Exhibition

The Miikanan Gallery is seeking art submissions for Aazhoomon Juried Art Exhibition, scheduled for November 2017. Various forms of art will be considered – including photography, painting, graphics, fiber art, mixed media, sculpture, beadwork, jewelry and basketry. For this first exhibit, the Miikanan is unable to consider works of art that are large installations, multi-media or film; an exhibit specific for those art medias will be held at a later date.

Deadline to submit work is August 28. Artists will be notified by Oct. 9, 2017 if work has been accepted into the exhibition. There will be monetary awards for the top three artworks chosen.

While the exhibit celebrates the diverse Ojibwe creative culture, artist submissions from all Indigenous nations will be welcome.

Work should reflect the title of the exhibition. The Miikanan is open to broad interpretations of the following concept:
Converge: Come from different directions and meet.
Convergence: The point of converging; a meeting place. A crossroads.

Selection will be based on:

  • Strength of the work, focusing on artistic merit
  • Diverse representation of art media
  • Diverse representation of emerging to established artist
