As It Is Above, It Is Below
Feb 10, 2018
Time: 12-3 p.m.
Teacher: Annette Lee
This inter-generational hands-on art making workshop will present the Ojibwe and D(L)akota view of the night sky and some related star stories. Original multimedia paintings, created by instructor Annette Lee, will be thoughtfully examined. Then participants will be given a wide variety of multi-media art materials to communicate their own relationship to the night sky by creating a visual story in the form of a 2-D star painting.
This activity is made possible, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
The Exquisite iPhone Landscape
October 7-9, 2017
Instructor: Dan Burkholder
Learn how to take professional-level photography using the tool in your pocket! The Exquisite iPhone Landscape will be a 3-day workshop on iPhone photography that will explore shooting, editing and stylizing techniques to take participants from casual captures to serious artwork. The workshop will open participants’ eyes and pump their creative juices to craft images they’ll be proud to share, exhibit and sell.
During the workshop, participants will experiment with their personal vision, from creating straight landscapes to painterly effects. They will leave class with a vast assortment of approaches and techniques to elevate their work above the many basic iPhone shots seen today, including advice on layering, depth of field, exposure, lens options, color, contrast, retouching, texture and more!
The in-depth workshop will be highly interactive, running 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day. It will take place at Watermark Art Center and includes local field trips around Bemidji, allowing participants to actively photograph with a professional instructor on-hand to guide their technique.
Participants must bring an iPhone 5S, SE or newer (or iPad Air or newer) with at least 6GB of available space. A “Preparing for Class” letter will be sent to participants shortly before class. Cost to attend this workshop is $150. Class size is limited.
