Alternative Firing Workshop
In conjunction with the 18th Annual “It’s Only Clay” exhibit, 2023 Juror Brad Bachmeier will lead an Alternative Firing Workshop, Saturday November 4th at Bemidji State University from 10am to 3pm.
Participants are invited to bring a maximum of two bisqued pieces ready to be fired. For smooth, glossy effects, work could be burnished, or have terra sigillata applied (also discussed during the workshop). Pieces should be no larger than 12 inches in the largest dimension.
Handouts will accompany discussion for a variety of techniques such as Raku, Horse-hair raku, Naked Raku, and obvara. Indoor saggar or raku firing is planned in case outdoor pit firing is not possible.
