Learn about the art of collage with former WAC exhibiting artist, Karlyn Atkinson Berg. Collage was not just an avant-garde art movement, but a revolt that opened up a new way of painting that is generally misunderstood, yet had a major impact on modern art.
Experiment with the many techniques of collage and create works using paper and acrylic media. Explore collage materials and different ways of using many collage elements like color, shape, texture, transfer and decollage methods to create varied abstract compositions.
MATERIALS INFO for PARTICIPANTS
A detailed list of materials to bring will be sent to participants. Most of these materials are things you do not necessarily need to purchase. The instructor will be bringing assorted materials, but you will need more of your own in order to make your collage a personal work of art. You also may be able to share and trade materials with others in the class.
Most important are paper Materials to cut up and/or use in collage: any color paper, junk mail, old magazines, old newspaper, parts of old sketches or art you might choose to tear up, tissue paper, glueable fabric. The more the better.
Collage is partially a mixed media event, so ANY other paints and ANY other art media supplies you already have will give you many options to create a collage. This can include pastels, oil pastels, color pencils and crayons.
This activity is made possible, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
