Join instructor Pam Collins as she teaches you how to use fabric like paint to create a beautiful and unique piece of art. You won’t actually be painting on fabric, but instead using a process that takes many different types and textures of fabric, including both new material and recycled.
Next a piece of art is created through a process of gluing and layering onto a stretched fabric surface. Throughout this process, you will learn about basic color theory, how colors recede, and which colors push things forward. You will also learn how certain fabrics make great waves, sky, or prairie; how to use textured fabric; how to create texture; and how to incorporate different prints into specific images. While the focus of the class will be on creating a landscape or seascape, you will learn how to design and create your own concept. You will be encouraged to play with colors and textures. Discover how a piece of taffeta can become a sky, or a small piece of upholstery fabric can turn into a rock formation or a tree. The process is simple, but the challenge — and fun — is transforming fabrics into a three-dimensional looking piece of art.
