Learn how to make stunning monotype prints with Miikanan Gallery’s exhibiting artist Anna Johnson (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians). In this class you will learn Gelli plate printing, you’ll be using a flexible gel surface that is designed for making one-of-a-kind monoprints that can capture fine textures and details without needing a traditional printing press. Once learned, this technique can easily be done at home. All supplies are included. This class is FREE and open to ALL ages (although parents are encouraged to participate with their kids!)
Her exhibit “Aandakiiwan: The Seasons Change” explores the quiet, profound way life shifts with the seasons. Working in monotype on ledger paper, this exhibition draws on sweetgrass, yarrow, sage, and other traditional medicines — plants that carry both physical presence and spiritual weight in Ojibwe culture — pressed and printed directly into each piece.
