Class Description:
The Farmer’s Market Basket was designed by instructor Shannon Lucas-Westrum exclusively for this workshop series. Students will have the opportunity to learn the making of a filled woven base, weaving with flat and round reed, twining, wrapping handles, and making their own accent cordage from locally harvested grasses and leaves. Approximate dimensions will be 17” long, 12” deep, basket sides are 7.5” high, with handles at 15” tall.
Additional Info to Participants:
Schedule: Friday Evening, 6-9pm, Getting to know the materials, setting up the base, a basketry slide show, and cordage making. Saturday, 10am-4pm, with 1/2hr lunch break, weaving the sides, cordage making, lashing rims and creating wrapped handles. (Some handles may need to finish being wrapped at home, depending on student pace).
