This class is for those who have taken the “Introduction to Tapestry Weaving” class, or who already have a basic knowledge of tapestry. In this class, you will have the chance to experiment with color mixing by weaving with two yarn strands held together, and also through the technique of hatching.
We will be working with shape building, outlining, and different kinds of joins. We will also be exploring the design process so that you can develop cartoons for original pieces you might like to weave. Please come to the first class with your loom warped.
If you feel you need a warping refresher, there will be an optional free session Friday evening. You must register for that session separately.
Materials Fee – $3.00 to instructor for yarn and handouts
What to bring – scissors, note pad. You may also bring any weaving tools you have and/or yarns you might like to work with (optional).

Artist Statement: Tapestry remains my favorite means of artistic expression. The limitations of the weaving grid are freeing, as form can be for poetry. I like to feel the creative sparks as I work my way around those limitations. It’s also a slow and meditative process. At times I use my own photographs, “tweaking” them to enhance the image and paying close attention to what I’m actually seeing instead of what I “think” I’m seeing. I also play with geometry, illusions, what I find in the natural world, or just doodle. I have been exploring different facets of tapestry, including techniques from many parts of the world, facial expression, and 3-dimensional tapestry. I would also like to explore the intersection of woven image and poetry. The possibilities are endless!
