Quinton Decker is an Navajo artist who resides in Missoula, Montana. Much of his inspiration as a painter is drawn from expressionism, graffiti, and characters of all genres, but most specifically Pokemon.

Decker is an emerging multi-genre artist currently focused on painting. “Train of Thought” draws from expressionism, graffiti, and diverse characters of all genres. This, combined with his nostalgia for collecting memorabilia as a child and the idea of evolution, captivated him and inspired this body of work.

Artist Statement

Train of Thought is a body of work that I created after graduating from the University of Montana.

I was faced with a dilemma of losing my access to vital ceramic equipment, so I shifted mediums to painting, which was more practical within the confines of my 400sq ft studio apartment.

The majority of the work was created over a two year time span…

A time in which I was free of critique other than my own.
Free of deadlines or prompts.
Free of the stress of the college experience.
A time in which I was able to simply create work based on a foundation of education.
A time when I was able to connect what I had learned with what I wanted to say based off my experiences in life.
