Join Michelle Marion and learn how to make a small black ash basket. You’ll begin by splitting the ash to use for weaving. The basket will be finished with black ash rim and lacing, plus basswood.

Michelle Marion (Anishinaabe and Akimell O’Otham) lives in Cass Lake with her family. Taught by family members and local artists she has been learning how to make a variety of baskets for ten years. She continues to learn all that she can. Michelle enjoys harvesting with family, weaving, carving, gardening, and dancing.

This activity was made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Additional support comes from Arts Midwest.
