Paint and Hike Experience – Adults

Join Shoreview, MN artist and naturalist Tammy Nara for this four-hour drawing, painting, and hiking class as we partner with the Nielson Spearhead Center, a 466 acre preserve located 11 miles southwest of Bemidji. Students will learn about watercolor techniques, color theory, drawing from life, as well as the flora and fauna seen during their hike. Students will also create drawings and paintings in response to what they experienced in nature that day.

Materials Fee (paid directly to instructor): $22 Included in materials fee is watercolor paper and a clipboard, watercolor paint, palette, and brush, water container, paper towels, permanent ink pen, and a string backpack. Students will need to pack a snack, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Water will be provided.

The class will meet at the Neilson Spearhead Center.

Tammy Nara is a hiking artist and art teacher based in Shoreview, Minnesota. She enjoys using pen, watercolor, and acrylic to create responses to the natural world. “Experiencing and protecting the natural world is important. Creating art and connecting with other humans also enriches our lives in important ways. Let’s make time for what is important.”

She started the website paintandhike.com in 2018. Her education includes a master’s degree in art education from the University of Minnesota. Her art can be seen at Studio 321 in the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis.
