Join Michelle Marion and learn how to make a small cedar Mat. We’ll work with white cedar and basswood to create a small cedar mat approximately 16″ x 8″.

We will start by cutting cedar strips to weave with and we will make cordage from basswood to frame the mat. Tools will be provided but if you have a knife and scissors you prefer to work with feel free to bring them with you.

Michelle Marion (Anishinaabe and Akimell O’Otham) lives in Cass Lake with her family. Taught by family members and local artists she has been learning how to make a variety of baskets for ten years. She continues to learn all that she can. Michelle enjoys harvesting with family, weaving, carving, gardening, and dancing.
