The eighth and final event of the First City Poetry Reads series will be Saturday, March 10th at 2 p.m. at Wollman Coffee, located at the intersection of Bemidji Avenue and 15th Street. The theme, “Poets in Conversation,” features poets Gail Rixen and Kristin Majkrazk. Both poets draw inspiration for their poetry from nature. Rixen is a farmer, writing instructor and wood worker; Majkrazk is a weaver, spinner and naturalist. Throughout the discussion and reading, the two poets hope to share their similarities and differences in approach to subject matter and the writing process.
There will be an open mic period after Rixen and Majkrazk’s reading. Poets should consider their own response to the subject of poetry itself, and how all poets share in the great conversation. Each reading should be no more than three minutes, with family friendly content. Questions and sign-up should be directed to Marsh Muirhead at 218-556-6313 or mgmuirhead@midco.net.
This event will conclude the First City Poetry Reads series, sponsored by the Spoken Word Committee of Watermark Art Center. The goal of this endeavor has been to bring poetry to new and sometimes unusual places, and to connect poets and audiences with themes that are relevant to our lives. Past locations include the Bemidji airport, fire station, Sanford Hospital, Anytime Fitness, the Beltrami County History Center and more.
