Participants will work with water based oils (no solvents) as instructor Darcy Brambrink leads them into using an impressionistic style of color and brushwork. Tonal values and creating a “tonan” will be discussed before starting a landscape painting. The group will also learn how to color tone the background before painting actually begins. Participants will follow along in painting a landscape painting on a 8 x 10 birch board panel in a size that can be easily framed later if so desired.

Participants are required to bring along an old shirt or smock to cover clothing, hair dryer to speed drying of background and a sack lunch for a break.

Please note even though we are using water-based oil paints, paint will still be wet when class is done. Transportation of your piece may require you to have flattened cardboard, shallow box or an old towel to protect your painting in your vehicle.

Darcy Brambrink is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
